Many of us have a furry friend at home, but what about the strays that need somewhere to sleep? Amazingly, this tech giant has been working to change their lives forever.
Wishing For Change
Baidu is a Chinese internet company that has become known across the world for its search engine, but now it seems as though they’re venturing into an entirely new area: cat care.
One of the engineers for the company, Wan Xi, wanted to provide stray cats with somewhere warm with food and water to see out the harsh winters. It was a big dream. However, Wan was determined to make it happen.

Harsh Winters
Wan got busy working on his design as the winters in Beijing can be particularly harsh. Temperatures regularly drop below 25 degrees Fahrenheit meaning water sources freeze up for weeks at a time.
Thankfully, his new shelter is designed to keep at 80 degrees and has an airflow system to ensure it’s continuously provided with plenty of fresh oxygen just in case they have a number of visitors at once.

Detecting Them All
So how does this AI cat shelter work? Wan has created a system that can detect up to 174 breeds of cats. It’s only then that the door to the shelter will open and let the visitor enter.
Thankfully, it won’t let in any other animals meaning they are kept safe from intruders. The shelter is built to accommodate many cats at once who can all hunker down and stay away from the chill.

Helping Ones In Need
That’s not all. The AI is so intelligent that it can detect if a cat has any physical trauma, skin issues, and inflammation.
If a sick cat enters the shelter, a team of volunteers are notified and will arrive to give them the help that they need. To top it off, all the cats are free to leave whenever they like meaning they can come and go all throughout the day.
Sometimes, it’s one small action that can make a huge difference in the world. Although this is just a small shelter for now, this AI cat shelter could grow to become a significant turning point for strays all around the world.
