Bigfoot, werewolves, unicorns -what do they have in common? We have never seen one. However, many of us still believe they’re out there. There has been one creature keeping many guessing for thousands of years: Nessie. So what if there might be proof that the Loch Ness Monster exists after all?
The Many Theories
There have been so many theories about the Loch Ness Monster over the years. Some believe that the creature is a dinosaur that was able to survive all this time while others think that it is an escaped creature from the zoo, a Greenland shark, or even a giant eel. It seems as though people have been coming up with their own stories since way back in the 6th century as everyone wants to know what could live in the loch.
Looking For The Truth
Professor Neil Gemmel and his team are some of the many who have been searching for answers. They have been using an environmental DNA sampling technique that involves taking samples of the water and searching through it for DNA so they can track creatures without harming the environment. Sampling Loch Ness could lead them one step closer to the truth.
Incredible Findings
Amazingly, they have been able to discover 3,000 species of bacteria and 15 species of fish thanks to the new technique. Plus, another research team found six never-before-seen species of shark thanks to eDNA sampling. Neil and the team had already whittled the list of theories down to just four ideas. Now, they wanted to test the waters to see if any could be true.
A Surprising Revelation
One of the theories up for debate was to see if Nessie is a long-necked plesiosaur that has secretly been living for millions of years. However, there was one that seemed to stick out more than the others. It appears as though Nessie could, in fact, be a giant catfish or sturgeon. Neil admits that one of the theories could be true, and it seems this is the most likely to hold any substance.
We might not have to wait much longer for the results as Neil is set to release them in Summer 2019. Could we really be about to uncover a secret that’s kept people guessing for thousands of years?
