Let’s be honest; we all spend a huge amount of time online. You’re even reading this online right now! Because the internet has become such a big part of our lives, very few of us actually think of how much time we spend online. An hour? A couple of hours? The likelihood is that you only stay online for a few minutes at a time, but when you do this regularly throughout the day, this starts to rack up. So, how much time does the earth spend online each day?
You might be wondering how we know how much time the earth spends online every single day, and we have Hootsuite, and We Are Social to thank for that. Every year, they concoct their annual Digital Report that reveals how much time each country spends on the internet on a daily basis. This includes everything to do with the internet, such as scrolling through social media, searching for something on Google, or clicking on news articles.
Taking First Place
As well as researching the world average, this report also created a list of the “Top Internet User of 2018,” and a list of the runners-up. In first place was the Philippines, where people in this country spend, on average, around 10 hours and 2 minutes online each day. Coming in second and third place is Brazil and Thailand, who spend over 9 hours on the World Wide Web.
Taking Last Place
Of course, it’s not all big numbers. Coming in last place is Japan, and the numbers are hugely different to those of the Philippines, Brazil, and Thailand. In fact, the national average of time spent on the internet in Japan was just 3 hours and 45 minutes.
The World Average
So, what is the average for the world? According to this report, the world spends a whopping 6 hours and 42 minutes online every single day. Have you ever wondered how much time you spend online?
Nowadays, we live in a world surrounded by the internet. Do these numbers make you want to cut down on your scrolling? Or does it fill you with joy, because you know you don’t spend that much time on the internet? We’ll leave that to you.
