One NASA engineer's newest project doesn't have to do with the intricacies of space travel or preparing for the technology giant's next experiment. Instead, he has developed an amazing way to deal with another problem: package thieves.

With online shopping becoming more and more popular and shoppers having stocked up on gifts for the holidays, NASA engineer Mark Rober was one of many people who have had packages stolen from him during the leadup to the holiday season. Like many others, he reported the incident to the police, who weren't interested in investigating it.

That's when Rober decided to get back at the thieves in hilarious fashion. Sure that they would return, he created a fake package that looked like an Apple HomePod ordered from Amazon. However, he used his skills to alter the package, with hilarious results.

He included a glitter bomb inside, stinky fart spray, and hidden cell phones that would not only send a GPS signal, but also record the thief's reaction to the explosive surprise. The fart spray was particularly inventive, as it was set up to trigger a nasty smell every thirty seconds after the package was opened.

The "over-engineered revenge bait package," as Rober described it, was created with the help of friend Sean Hodgins, who makes a living crafting custom circuit boards. Rober was able to exhaustively detail the creation of the box in a YouTube video, which had people cheering on his efforts after undoubtedly experiencing similar issues with thieves.

He also included footage (which was uploaded to the cloud in the case of each package) of the traps actually going off after being taken by real-life thieves. To top it all off, the packages had return addresses of Kevin McAllister's address from the Home Alone movies, and one played an audio clip that said, "Keep the change, ya filthy animal" after it deployed the glitter.
